Once the pool is up and running there are a few things you should do weekly in order to properly maintain it:

1. Test the Water Chemistry

To have clear water, you'll need to maintain proper chemistry. The 3 most important categories to watch are chlorine, pH, and alkalinity.  Read our other atricles to learn more about water chemistry and what each of those levels should be. For free lab testing and advice, bring a water sample into our store and we'd be happy to help you out!

2. Empty out Skimmer Baskets

There are baskets inside each one of your skimmers as well as inside your pump. These should regularly be checked and cleaned out to ensure water can flow freely through the system.

3. Clean the Filter

There is a pressure guage on top of the filter that will show you when the filter actually needs to be cleaned but its best to get in the habit of checking it at least weekly. Sand filters need to be backwashed and cartridge filters need to be rinsed when the pressure gets too high. Most peoples clean pressure ranges from 10-20 PSI depending on pump size and plumbing. After cleaning the filter note what the pressure goes back down to and then clean it again when it raises 10lbs above that. You'll also notice when a filter needs to be cleaned becuase the flow  of water going back into the pool will slow down.
